The Map

7 days 7 nights, 117 km

Between valleys, glaciers and peaks, a ride in wild nature and the charm of mountain life.

Day 1

Chamonix

A legendary area, the Grands Montets offers the best playground for skiers and snowboarders in Chamonix. From the spring, a hike around the Argentière Glacier, between Aiguille Verte and Aiguille d’Argentière, offers the ultimate mountain experience.

Day 2

Vallorcine

For the second stop, destination Vallorcine around fifteen kilometres north-east of Chamonix. Hidden behind the Montets Pass, just at the foot of the Aiguilles Rouges, the site is a paradise for lovers of mountain biking, climbing, canyoning (in Barberine), fishing and hiking. The best routes are via the Tête de Balme and the Loriaz lodge.

Day 3

Gietroz

Time to head to Val de Bagnes in Switzerland with an optional stop at the hamlet of Giétroz, Jeurs or Finhaut. Though permanently receding, the glacier remains a major attraction in the region and the view on Lake Mauvoisin is unique. On fine days, the best hikes are around the Jeurs and the Col du Bel Oiseau.

Day 4

Salvan

After crossing the impressive arch bridge of Gueuroz, park your van in this small Swiss paradise. Welcome to the wilderness at the heart of a forest of larches where one can even swim, on nice days, in an Alpine pool. Aside from Lake Salvan, don’t miss the hiking trail that leads to the Triège gorges, with its footbridges and three bridges.

Day 5

Orsières

You must stop in this small Swiss mid-mountain village where local craftsmanship reigns undisputed: red berries, honey, medicinal plants and Protected Designation of Origin (PDO) raclette cheese to buy. Skiing in winter and on fine days: 400 kilometres of trails to choose from. Not to be missed: the Alpine lake of Champex, a pure mountain gem.

Day 6

Chamonix

Get ready to climb the Aiguille du Midi. A trip with two stops: Plan de l’Aiguille at 2,354 m, ideal to start a hike or a paragliding flight, and cable car up to the peak of the Aiguille (3,842 m) with a flight over the glaciers and Europe’s highest peaks. Back down to earth, enjoy local specialities to celebrate your adventure.

Day 7

Chamonix

Before returning the van keys, last breath of oxygen, last snapshot of wonders, last chunk of Tomme de Savoie cheese… imagine anything you like, paradise is always hard to leave.
